Gladys G. Cisneros

My name is Gladys G. Cisneros, and I am the school counselor here at Ed Franz Elementary School. Before coming to Ed Franz, I attended Texas A&M International University where I received my degree in Elementary Education and Masters Degree in School Counseling. I grew up in Laredo, Texas where I have spent the majority of my teaching career teaching Kindergarten for ten wonderful years and 6th grade for an exciting seven years.

I have been happily married for 35 years, and we have two lovely beautiful adult daughters Kaila and Damaris. I enjoy reading since I was a child, I love traveling to the beach with my husband, and I treasure the time I spend with my family.

In my guidance classes, small groups, and individual counseling, my theoretical orientation to counseling is Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. Cognitive Therapy incorporates mindfulness practices such as relaxation and breathing exercises that teach children how to break away from negative thoughts, emotions, and behavior patterns. Mindfulness-Based CBT is a framework that analyzes student's behavior by looking at the thought processes of children. For reasons of practicality and application, I also integrate a Solution-Focused Approach which is a future-focused, goal-directed approach to therapy that highlights the importance of searching for solutions rather than focusing on problems.

This is my 8th year at Ed Franz, and I am excited to be here! I am passionate about my profession because it gives me the opportunity to develop a relationship with your child and the satisfaction of meeting your child needs to ensure your child is successful in life.
